I find it very difficult not to look towards the future and buy for what I want to wear in June (the first day of summer is June 21st, after all). June is the first time it feels that summer will stay, versus the indecisive weather in the months leading up.
This summer I will be spending my time in New York, interning for a company in SoHo. New York summers draw a much different feeling than other seasons spent in the city, there is still a need for a “Cool Chicness” but, girly and light pieces are able to share the spotlight.
For June I will be trading my leather jacket, a NY statement, for linen blazers, and my heeled pointed toe booties for chunky sandals. The key is to swap edgy, heavy pieces for menswear-inspired looks. This season is filled with linens and pastels which create the perfect canvas to incorporate statement accessories.
I’m a big advocate for juxtaposition. A white boho dress with black studded mules; Linen paired with chunky hardware or jewelry; Hard with Soft; Light with Dark! My top picks for June all have an element of this, while at the same time, “hold-their-own” as stamens pieces. Summer in the city has never looked so effortless!
